You’re hurting and grieving the loss of your relationship and wishing you could just “get over it”. But breakups and divorces come with difficult thoughts and feelings including depression, confusion, anger, fears about the future, anxiety, changes in our identity and even physical pain that take time to heal.

Couples Counseling

Next Step Counseling offers counseling for relationship difficulties for couples and individuals. Many times there are parts about your relationship that you love and parts that you are unsatisfied with. Do you stay or do you go? Can these difficult areas be worked past?

Relationship difficulties happen for many reasons: communication styles, life values, religion, arguments, sexual compatibility, substance use, or decisions on whether to have children. The next step in moving past your relationship confusion, which may be causing you to feel anxious, disappointed, depressed or confused, is to help you sort through your conflicts that are keeping you from taking action, expressing how you feel, identifying your needs and non-negotiables, connecting on a deeper level and making decisions. We will take the time to learn what you are struggling with individually or as a couple in your relationship and help you work through and decide if this is the right one for you!

We specialize in helping individuals and couples navigate:

  • Adjustment to living together, engagement or marriage
  • Relationship uncertainty
  • Infidelity
  • Divorce recovery
  • Emotional intimacy, conflict and communication
  • Sex therapy for improved sexual intimacy
  • Relationships struggling with substance use and addictions recovery

  • Increase insight, self-esteem and self-trust
  • Utilizing your strengths to support your growth

Depression Counseling

Have you ever wondered what’s causing your sadness or depression?

Depression is complex and a number of factors contribute to it including family history and genetics, thought processes, interpersonal relationships and conflict or social isolation, life events (such as: trauma, a breakup or divorce, grief and loss, moving, the coming out process, quarter-life or mid-life crisis) and personality (low self-esteem, perfectionism, and self-criticism) to name a few. The severity and frequency of depressive symptoms and how long they last vary depending on the individual.

Research shows counseling works to lessen symptoms, shorten the depression course, and significantly lower the rate of relapse in the future. Let our therapists help you through this time and figure out what’s causing and contributing to your depression.

Types of Depression

Mild and major depression are well known types of depression. Other types of depression include Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which usually begins in the fall/winter; dysthymia, which is a long-term depressed mood for at least two years where symptoms can be less sever then major depression; and bipolar or manic depression, which usually alternates major depression with states of unusually heightened excitement and elation.
